Gynaecology
Gynaecology services provide pelvic and specialised ultrasound scans to diagnose conditions and guide treatment, with results reviewed by a specialist.
Pelvic scan (transabdominal and/or transvaginal)
A noninvasive exam to assess the uterus, ovaries and bladder for cysts, fibroids, polyps or other gynecological conditions. A transvaginal scan is often essential to obtain clearer views.
What to expect
Transabdominal scan: gel applied, probe moved across lower abdomen (10–15 minutes); a full bladder may be requested.
Transvaginal scan: an internal probe is gently inserted (covered and lubricated) for clearer images of the uterus and ovaries (~10 minutes).
Discomfort
Mild pressure or cramping possible with transvaginal probe.
Results
Ultrasound findings are discussed at your visit by a Specialist.
DIE scan (deep infiltrating endometriosis scan)
A focused ultrasound to look for signs of deep infiltrating endometriosis around the pelvis and nearby organs, helping guide diagnosis and treatment planning.
What to expect
A very detailed pelvic ultrasound (may combine transabdominal and transvaginal views) lasting 20–40 minutes. You may be asked about symptoms and prior surgeries; a full bladder may be requested initially. The sonographer looks for endometriotic nodules and involvement of bowel, bladder or ligaments.
Discomfort
Mild cramping during the internal scan.
Results and recommendations for further testing will be discussed at your visit.
